SSE confirms talks with Ovo for sale of UK retail business

SSE PLC confirmed that it is in discussions with Ovo Group Ltd over the possible sale of its household energy division.

The SSE Energy Services Group Ltd. business supplies energy and related services to around 5.7 million household customers across Great Britain, according to an Aug. 10 news release.

It was recently the target of a failed merger with Germany utility Innogy SE's retail unit. The companies called off the deal in December 2018 due to the British energy price cap and disputes over financial contributions.

SSE has yet to reach a final decision or agreement for the potential sale of SSE Energy Services to Ovo Group. The company said it does not plan to give any further comment on the discussions until it has reached a conclusion.
