Samsung SDI profit slides, revenue jumps in Q2

South Korea's Samsung SDI Co. Ltd. posted a year-over-year decline in second-quarter net profit even as revenue and operating profit rose.

The battery manufacturer's net profit fell to 104.7 billion South Korean won from 186.6 billion won in the year-ago period.

Second-quarter revenue climbed to 2.248 trillion won from 1.469 trillion won in the prior-year period, with a sharp rise in energy storage system sales.

Operating profit rose to 152.8 billion won from 5.5 billion won in the year-ago quarter. However, the company booked a non-operating loss of 11.6 billion won, compared with a non-operating profit of 226.1 billion won in the second quarter of 2017.

As of July 27, US$1 was equivalent to 1,116.45 South Korean won.
