Hecla Mining Co.said April 14 that it achieved record silver production of 4.6 million ounces inthe first quarter, a 61% jump on a yearly basis.
Gold production increased 37% year over year to 55,688 ouncesin the quarter.
Silver equivalent production, up 37% over the year-ago quarter,was also a record at 12.0 million ounces.
The increase in production came on the back of better year-over-yearperformance across the company's mines, including Greens Creek, Lucky Friday, and Casa Berardi.
The company produced 1.2 million ounces of silver and 9,329 ouncesof gold at the San Sebastianmine, where first dore was produced in December 2015.
Hecla President and CEO Phillips Baker said that first-quartersilver equivalent production will be the highest for the year, as grades were higherthan those expected for the rest of 2016.
Lead and zinc production increased 12% and 7.9% on a yearly basisto 11,038 tons and 17,364 tons, respectively.
Hecla expects silverproduction in 2016 to range between 13.5 million ounces and 14.0 millionounces, and gold production at about 207,000 ounces.
