Susanne Daniels, MTV (US)'s former programming chief, joined Google Inc.'s YouTube in 2015 to head its original content push shortly before the launch of subscription service YouTube Red. Daniels oversees programming strategy, development, and production of YouTube's original series and feature films. In May, YouTube announced plans to launch seven original shows starring artists such as Kevin Hart, Rhett and Link, Ellen DeGeneres, Katy Perry, The Slow Mo Guys, Demi Lovato and Ludacris that users can watch for free. It also unveiled plans to fund more than 40 original content in the next year.

At a February event, Alphabet Inc. CFO Ruth Porat said the company saw YouTube Red as an "attractive add-on" to the company's services and dubbed it a "very important area" for the tech giant. More recently, YouTube's head of music said at an event that the company is merging its Google Play Music and YouTube Red services to create a new streaming service.

Sundance Feniger, Boomerang's vice president and general manager

Sundance Feniger, formerly Nickelodeon (US)'s senior director of product strategy and development, this year joined the new ad-free video subscription service Boomerang, a joint venture between Time Warner Inc.'s Turner and Warner Bros. Digital Networks Group. Boomerang's child-friendly platform offers more than 5,000 titles in the U.S. for $4.99 a month, or $39.99 a year. Time Warner's Executive Vice President and CFO Howard Averill said at an event in 2016 that the purpose of the company's joint venture with Warner Bros. is to develop big global franchises that can be expanded into consumer products and international, cross-platform content.

Feniger is credited with developing the strategy and managed premium product for Viacom's first mobile subscription video-on-demand service, Noggin.

Andrew Goodman, AT&T/DIRECTV's associate vice president of digital content

Andrew Goodman, who has been with AT&T Inc. since 2007, led the company's initiative to launch streaming service DIRECTV Now, negotiating for streaming rights with nearly all major U.S. television network groups. Goodman is also responsible for programming strategy and negotiating content agreements for AT&T's pay TV services, DIRECTV and U-verse, and emerging digital platforms.

AT&T CFO John Stephens recently noted that DIRECTV Now offset declines in the company's traditional TV business during the second quarter. As of June 30, DIRECTV Now reached 491,000 subscribers, compared to 20.9 million satellite connections and 3.8 million U-verse connections. Satellite and U-verse video connections declined by 156,000 and 195,000 during the quarter, respectively, while DIRECTV Now gained 152,000 subscribers. Overall, the company had 25.2 million video connections by the end of the first half, down about 0.5% year over year.

Roger Lynch, Sling TV's outgoing CEO

Roger Lynch headed the creation and launch in 2015 of Sling TV, DISH Network Corp.'s over-the-top service that offers live sports, news and entertainment. Sling TV recently unveiled an A La Carte TV, or a pick-and-pay TV service, priced at $20 per month. Sling TV reached nearly 1.5 million subscribers at the end of the second quarter.

Lynch will leave DISH to join Pandora Media Inc. as CEO, president and director, effective Sept. 18. Michael Lynton, the chairman of Snap Inc.'s board and former CEO of Sony Corp.'s Sony Pictures Entertainment, also recently joined Pandora's board.

Julie McNamara, CBS All Access' executive vice president of original content

CBS Corp. named Julie McNamara the first original programming chief for its CBS All Access subscription streaming service in 2016. McNamara previously served at CBS Television Studios as executive vice president of drama development and is credited for developing series such as "The Good Wife," "Elementary," "Scorpion," "Jane the Virgin," "Hawaii Five-0," "Blue Bloods," "Madam Secretary," "Under the Dome" and "NCIS: Los Angeles."

Along with its original programming, CBS All Access has a library of more than 9,000 episodes on-demand. The subscription costs $5.99 a month in the U.S., with a commercial-free tier available for $9.99 a month.

The company recently announced plans to launch CBS All Access in Canada in the first half of 2018, with other markets to follow. The company expects to exceed more than 4 million subscribers for both CBS All Access and Showtime's direct-to-consumer products by year-end.

Jason Ropell, who joined Amazon.com Inc. in 2012 from Netflix Inc., is tasked with overseeing all original film production, distribution and marketing at Amazon Studios and film licensing for Prime Video, globally. At the 89th annual Academy Awards ceremony this year, Amazon Studios earned three gold statues that included two for drama "Manchester by the Sea." The streaming company also won for best foreign language film for Iranian drama "The Salesman." The 2017 awards marked the first time a streamer has received an Oscar for its original films, with Netflix also taking home an Oscar for best documentary in the short-subject category.

Amazon Studios' first original movie was Spike Lee's "Chi-Raq" in 2015, followed by a number of other releases, including "The Neon Demon," "The Lost City of Z," "The Big Sick," "The Dressmaker," "Elvis & Nixon" and "Café Society." In May, Amazon.com struck an exclusive two-year first-look deal with Steven Soderbergh's Fingerprint Releasing for its theatrical movie projects.

Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer

Ted Sarandos has been leading content acquisition for Netflix since 2000, overseeing development of the streaming giant's first moves into original programming with shows including "House of Cards," "Hemlock Grove," "Arrested Development," and "Orange is the New Black." Netflix scored 91 Emmy nominations in 2017, led by "Stranger Things" and "The Crown" with 18 and 13 nods, respectively.

The company exited the second quarter with just under 104 million streaming members. It expects to add 4.4 million more members in the third quarter.

Joel Stillerman, Hulu's chief content officer

Joel Stillerman oversees content strategy at Hulu LLC, which he joined in May after serving as president of original programming and development for AMC (US) and SundanceTV (US). Stillerman is credited with helping AMC win four consecutive Emmy awards for outstanding drama series for "Mad Men," and six for "Breaking Bad." At Hulu, he spearheads content acquisition, original programming development and content partner management teams.

Hulu has been expanding its original content in recent years, adding high-end drama, limited and comedy series such as "The Path," "Casual" and "11.22.63" under the leadership of head of content Craig Erwich. Following Stillerman's hire, Erwich increased his focus on the company's original programming while maintaining his roles as senior vice president and head of content.
