TiVo claims TV networks refuse to run BOLT DVR ads

TiVo Inc.has claimed that TV networks are refusing to run ads on its recently launchedTiVo BOLT DVR becauseof the device's "SkipMode" feature, which allows viewers to skipcommercial breaks on certain recorded shows.

In a March 29 post on its official blog, TiVo said thatwhile commercials are a revenue source for the broadcasters, ad interruptionsare "one of the biggest annoyances" for many cable TV audiences.

TiVo did not name any specific companies in the blog post.

The SkipMode feature is enabled on channels such asABC (US),CBS (US),NBC (US) andFOX (US), amongothers, Multichannel News reported April 1.

TiVo also reportedly extended the SkipMode component to itsRoamio DVRs deployed in cities such as Chicago and San Francisco.
