Top news

* Ioannis Pipilis, former head of fixed income at Deutsche Bank AG, has joined SoftBank Investment Advisers (UK) Ltd. as head of global financing, sources told London's Financial News. SoftBank Investment Advisers manages the SoftBank Vision Fund LP.

* Beijing ByteDance Technology Co. Ltd. reshuffled its top executives with a goal to address growth bottlenecks, KrASIA reported, citing 36Kr. Chen Lin, chief executive of ByteDance's news aggregator platform Jinri Toutiao, will shift his focus to new ByteDance businesses such as social apps Duoshan and Feiliao. Meanwhile, former Baidu Inc. executive Zhu Wenjia, who was promoted to take charge of Toutiao, will now report directly to ByteDance founder Zhang Yiming.

* Balesh Sharma stepped down as CEO of Vodafone Idea Ltd. due to personal reasons. The Indian telco named Ravinder Takkar as managing director and CEO of the company for a period of three years. Takkar is a nonexecutive director on the Vodafone Idea board.

* Seven West Media Ltd. CEO Tim Worner has stepped down from his position. James Warburton, a former chief executive of rival broadcaster Network Ten Pty. Ltd., was appointed to take the reins at the Australian company. He was named CEO and managing director of Seven West Media.

Media industry moves

* Caroline Spencer is stepping down as director of unscripted programming at FremantleMedia Australia Pty. Ltd., TBI Vision reported. Spencer, who has been with the company for 10 years, did not disclose the reason for her departure and what her next move is.

* New Zealand's SKY Network Television Ltd. appointed Philip Bowman as chairman. He succeeds Peter Macourt, who is retiring after holding the board position for 17 years. Bowman previously was a nonexecutive director of U.K.-based broadcaster Sky Ltd.

* Nine Entertainment Co. named Paul Koppelman as its new CFO. Koppelman replaced Greg Barnes, who left the Australian media company in August. Prior to joining Nine, Koppelman was CFO of construction management software provider Aconex Ltd.

Communications industry moves

* Ashe-lee Jegathesan resigned as company secretary of Vocus Group Ltd. to become COO of Uniti Group Inc. Vocus appointed Simon Lewin, the company's deputy general counsel, as Jegathesan's replacement effective Sept. 25.

* Kate McKenzie, CEO and managing director of New Zealand-based telecom operator Chorus Ltd., will resign and return to Australia at the end of 2019, bizEDGE reported.

* Telenor Connexion AB appointed Seth Ryding chief sales officer for the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, Ryding will take a seat on Telenor Connexion's management team.

* Total Access Communication PCL named How Lih Ren its new chief marketing officer, Blognone reported. Prior to joining the company, Ren led the marketing team of DiGi Telecommunications Sdn. Bhd.

* Bharti Airtel appointed Rajesh Tapadia as CEO of its data center and cloud unit Nxtra Data Ltd., The Economic Times (India) reported, citing IANS. Tapadia joins the company from Netmagic Solutions Pvt. Ltd., where he managed data center operations across multiple cities in India.

Technology industry moves

* Microsoft Corp. appointed Rajiv Kumar as the new managing director of Microsoft India (R&D) Pvt. Ltd., The Economic Times (India) reported. Kumar, currently the corporate vice president of Microsoft's Experiences and Devices Group, will take over the role from Anil Bhansali, who will be relocating to the U.S.

* Facebook Inc. appointed Peter Lydian, former president director of digital finance platform Finmas, as its new country director for Indonesia, KrASIA reported, citing a company statement. Lydian takes over for Sri Widowati, who resigned from the position in March.

* Alphabet Inc.'s Google LLC appointed Jackie Wang as its new country manager for Thailand, Manager reported. Wang replaces Ben King, who will transfer to the role of country manager at Google Singapore. Wang joined Google in 2014 from McCann Worldgroup AS.

* Spotify Technology SA hired Peter Manten, former digital strategy and commercial director of Bauer Media Pty. Ltd., to become head of sales for its Australia and New Zealand operations. According to Mumbrella, Manten previously served as network head of sales for digital media at Network Ten.
