EU imposes new sanctions on North Korea over weapons program

European Union foreign ministers agreed to impose new sanctions on North Korea over its weapons program, including a total ban on EU investment in the hostile nation and a ban on the sale of refined petroleum products and crude oil, the Associated Press reported.

The ministers also reduced to €5,000 the amount of money that can be sent back home by North Korean workers, whose work permits will not be renewed as part of the sanctions, the report said.

Three people and six entities were also hit with asset freezes and travel bans.

Russian President Vladimir Putin also signed a decree imposing restrictions on North Korea in line with a resolution passed by the United Nations Security Council in response to North Korea's past missile tests, according to Reuters.
