Total U.S. nuclear plant availability edged lower early Dec. 12 to 93.69%, down from 94.29% on Dec. 9 and above the 91.55% reported on the same day in 2015.
Working to tug total U.S. output lower was the loss of Exelon Corp.'s Nine Mile Point 1 nuclear unit in New York. According to a filing with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the reactor was manually scrammed Dec. 10 due to high vibrations on the main turbine.
