Amazon.comInc. promoted Jeff Wilke and Andy Jassy to newly created positionsof CEO Worldwide Consumer and CEO Amazon Web Services, respectively.

Wilke was previously senior vice president, Consumer Business, while Jassy was senior vice president, Web Services. Jeff Bezos remains CEO ofthe entire company.

According to an April 7 official blog post, the changes are"not a reorganization but rather a recognition" of the roles playedby Wilke and Jassy in the growth of Amazon's three "big pillars"—Marketplace, Prime and AWS.

The move could be part of a succession plan for the company,or could mean that Amazon is planning to spin off AWS as a separate unit,Business Insider reported the same day.
