Insurance moves through Oct. 4

S&P Global Market Intelligence presents a weekly rundown of selected executive management and other personnel moves in the insurance industry. The changes are listed by announcement date in reverse chronological order.

Oct. 4

The Doctors Co. appointed Crystal Brown senior vice president of underwriting, the Insurance Journal reported. She had worked for CNA Financial Corp., holding various roles such as assistant vice president, underwriting director and senior underwriter.

Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc. unit Guy Carpenter & Co. LLC named Claude Yoder managing director and global chief innovation and product development officer. Yoder was previously head of Marsh global analytics.

Oct. 3

Willis Towers Watson Plc appointed three senior executives to its North America corporate risk and broking business.

Sandie Mullen was named head of life sciences and pharmaceutical casualty broking for North America. Previously, Mullen was at RT Specialty serving as senior vice president and national life sciences practice leader. Joseph LaRocco was named head of carrier management for North America. He joined the company in 2012 as Midwest regional broking officer. Additionally, Raymond Gahwyler was named head of operations for North America broking.

Everest Re Group Ltd. said Mike Harnett was appointed vice president and deputy chief underwriting officer for Everest Insurance North America. Harnett was senior vice president of corporate underwriting at Chubb Ltd.

Chubb made several management appointments for its general and life insurance operations globally, effective Dec. 1. Among others, Jeff Hager was named regional COO of the Pacific region in the U.S.

Farmers Group Inc. said that Steve Boshoven, president of Farmers Specialty and head of the Foremost Brand, is retiring from the organization, effective May 1, 2018. Mike Cok, COO of Farmers Specialty and the Foremost brand, will succeed Boshoven as president, effective Jan. 1, 2018.

XL Catlin named Stephen Clark vice president and national hull and liabilities practice leader in Chicago, and Alison Rizzi senior ocean marine underwriter in New York. Clark most recently was vice president of the ocean marine business at CNA. Rizzi returned to the company from Allianz, where she managed a book of marine risks.

XL Catlin is the global brand used by XL Group Ltd.'s insurance and reinsurance companies.

Blue Shield of California promoted two leaders to its senior management team. The company appointed Todd Walthall executive vice president of markets to lead the company's employer, consumer and senior markets. He succeeds David Fields, who is leaving the company. Michael Mathias was named executive vice president of customer experience. He will also continue in his role as chief information officer.

RSA Canada appointed Steve Cohen senior vice president and chief underwriting officer. Cohen will join the company in the first quarter of 2018. RSA Canada is part of RSA Insurance Group Plc.

American International Group Inc. hired Charles Fry as head of reinsurance, operations and transformation in general insurance. Fry previously was group CFO at Novae Group Plc.

Oct. 2

Markus Heizmann will join Everest Reinsurance (Ireland) as head of its Zurich-based credit and surety operations. Previously, Heizmann was senior underwriter for credit and surety at AXIS Re, a business segment of AXIS Capital Holdings Ltd.

Aetna Inc.'s vice president, controller and chief accounting officer, Sharon Virag, plans to leave the company. Heather Dixon was named as Virag's successor.

Robin Raju was named treasurer of AXA Financial Inc., and Yun Zhang was named treasurer of AXA Equitable Life Insurance Co. and MONY Life Insurance Co. of America. Raju currently works as managing director and business area CFO of AXA Equitable Life Insurance. Zhang worked as lead director and assistant treasurer at AXA Equitable Life Insurance and as business CFO for the company's legacy book.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Arizona Inc. named Pam Kehaly president and CEO. She takes over from Richard Boals, who retired in July. COO Sandy Gibson worked as interim president during the search. Kehaly previously was president of Anthem Inc.'s west region, which includes the company's affiliated Blue Cross and/or Blue Shield health plans in eight states and the company's specialty business.

Manulife Financial Corp.'s John Hancock division appointed Anne McNally vice president and head of corporate communications. Previously, McNally was global head of public relations for State Street Corp.

Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. named Geoffrey Craddock chief risk officer. Craddock comes to the company from OppenheimerFunds Inc., where he most recently was chief risk officer. He fills a role previously held by Elizabeth Ward, who was named CFO in 2016. Brad Hoffman worked in the role on an interim basis and will continue to work on the enterprise risk management team.

Principal Financial Group Inc. named Julia Lawler chief risk officer, effective Jan. 1, 2018. Lawler will replace Greg Elming, who plans to retire March 31, 2018. She works as senior executive director of Principal Portfolio Strategies, the asset allocation boutique within Principal Global Investors LLC.

Patriot National Inc. promoted Nicole Brewer to senior vice president, marketing and corporate operations, the Insurance Journal reported.

Chubb added Hannah Hosking and Steve Bear to its middle-market independent broker segment.

Sept. 29

Sun Life Financial Inc.'s senior vice president of client solutions and executive chair of Sun Life Financial Quebec, Isabelle Hudon, is leaving the company to become Canada's ambassador to France.

Voya Financial Inc. named Santhosh Keshavan chief information officer. Keshavan previously worked at Regions Financial Corp. as chief information officer for core banking.

Sept. 28

Regence BlueShield of Idaho Inc. appointed Kenneth Bramwell executive medical director. Bramwell was chief medical officer of HonorHealth Deer Valley Medical Center.

Health Care Service Corp. a Mutual Legal Reserve Co. announced a number of organizational changes. Among others, Rob Hitchcock joins the company as senior vice president and president of the government-sponsored and consumer solutions division. He led Medicare Advantage programs for Humana Inc., and Medicaid, Medicare Advantage and exchange programs for Centene Corp.
