Top 20 European banks by market cap, Q3'17

Standard Chartered Plc dropped out of the 20 largest European banks by market capitalization at the end of the third quarter, while DNB ASA entered the otherwise little-changed list, data compiled by S&P Global Market Intelligence shows.

HSBC Holdings Plc, Banco Santander SA and BNP Paribas SA retained their positions as the top three, while PAO Sberbank of Russia overtook ING Groep NV for the fourth spot, which the Russian lender had held at March-end. At 32.10%, Sberbank had the best total return in the third quarter among the 100 largest banks in the world as ranked by S&P Global Market Intelligence.

Lloyds Banking Group Plc retained its ranking at sixth place, followed by UBS Group AG, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria SA, Intesa Sanpaolo SpA and Nordea Bank AB (publ).
