Martinez, who joined Discovery in 1994, is retiring at the end of 2017 from the post he has held for the past 17 years. During his tenure, he oversaw the launch and development of Discovery en Español (US) and Discovery Familia (US) in the U.S. Hispanic market.

Martinez has agreed to stay on as an adviser for Discovery Networks International and will report to JB Perrette, president and CEO of Discovery Networks International.

Martinez's successor Medin is currently serving as the executive vice president and general manager for Brazil and the Southern Cone, according to an Oct. 9 news release. Once he assumes the role of president and managing director of the units, he will report directly to Perrette.
