Ayala Land mulls growth options for healthcare brand QualiMed

Ayala Land Inc. said it was mulling options for the expansion of QualiMed Health Network after a media report said Metro Pacific Hospital Holdings Inc. intends to take over the healthcare brand.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported Nov. 27, citing unnamed sources, that Ayala confirmed negotiations with potential investors for the sale of a chain of hospitals and clinics operated by QualiMed, with its joint venture partner Mercado leading the talks for the possible deal. Ayala, however, said in a filing that no definitive agreement regarding the future of the business has yet been reached.

Furthermore, a possible deal with Metro Pacific could result in the single biggest union of healthcare networks in the Philippines, the paper noted. According to more sources cited by the Inquirer, other groups, such as Unilab's Mount Grace hospital business, may also submit bids for the business.

QualiMed was established by Ayala and Mercado in February 2014 and it currently holds four operating hospitals, containing 456 beds, as well as seven other outpatient facilities across the country.
