Missouri ride-hailing services bill receives initial House approval

The Missouri House voted 113-38 to grant initial approval toa bill that would regulate app-based ride-hailing services and require them toprovide vehicle insurance and conduct background checks on drivers, TheAssociated Press reported April 6.

The legislation regulating ride-hailing services such asUber and Lyft would make local rules governing background checks and drivercertification obsolete and ban cities and municipalities from making additionalrules, according to the report.

Under the legislation, companies would also be required topay an annual permit fee of $5,000 and provide fare estimates to customers, thenews outlet reported.

The bill requires a second vote of approval to pass out ofthe House, according to the AP.
