Chinese electric vehicle producer Lixiang secures US$530M in series C round

Chinese electric vehicle maker Lixiang Automotive, formerly known as CHJ Automotive, raised US$530 million in a series C financing round led by online services giant Meituan Dianping's CEO and founder Wang Xing, DealStreetAsia reported, citing an announcement from early investor Plum Ventures.

Plum did not disclose additional details about the funding, but according to Chinese media reports, Xing injected around US$300 million for the round.

Tiktok operator ByteDance joined the round with a US$30 million investment, alongside existing backers such as Matrix Partners China, BlueRun Ventures and Future Capital, the report noted. The company's founder, Li Xiang, reportedly invested US$100 million in the company.

The company will start mass production of its first hybrid SUV model, Li One, in October and intends to deliver it in November, the news outlet reported.
