TransAlta inks new contract for Ontario cogeneration facility

TransAlta Corp. has agreed to terminate its 122-MW Mississauga cogeneration facility's existing contract with the Ontario Electricity Financial Corp. and ink a new non-utility generator enhanced dispatch contract with the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator.

The new contract to be signed Jan. 1, 2017, provides TransAlta fixed monthly payments until Dec. 31, 2018, with no delivery obligations. It also provides for a prompt cut in greenhouse gas emissions and lower rates for Ontario electric customers.

The facility's existing contract will cease validity on Dec. 31, 2016, instead of its original expiry date of December 2018.
