Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.'s Damo Academy launched Alibaba Machine Intelligence Technologies' new smart ordering system that is able to take orders through voice recognition, according to a May 23 post on Alibaba's news agency Alizila.
The technology allows customers at cafes and restaurants to place their orders via voice and make as many changes as they want. The Chinese e-commerce giant said the machine's artificial intelligence enables it to understand all the changes and update orders in real time.
The machine, which only works for Chinese-speaking customers, was built to understand customers' pace, pauses and breaths between words, pronunciation and facial expressions, according to the release.
Alibaba said the machine will be available over the coming months.
