Vale names new head of base metals division

Vale SA named Eduardo de Salles Bartolomeo head of its base metals division, effective Jan. 1, 2018.

Bartolomeo has been on the company's board since September 2016 and held various roles between 2007 and 2012, including executive officer for the company's fertilizer, coal and marketing operations.

He takes over from Jennifer Maki, who was named CEO of Vale Canada and executive director of the base metals business in November 2014, according to the Brazilian miner's website.

Vale plans to increase iron ore pellet output by 10% in 2018 and cut its nickel production forecast by 15%.
