Barclays names Citi exec to head Barclaycard International

Barclays Plc named Barry Rodrigues, former head of digital payments for Citigroup Inc.'s global consumer bank, to serve as CEO of Barclaycard International, effective in early November.

He will be based in New York and report directly to Tim Throsby, president of Barclays International and CEO of the corporate and investment bank.

In his previous role, Rodrigues was responsible for next-generation payment solutions and platforms, concerning both digital commerce and money transmission. He also negotiated and managed payment partnerships with digital firms, as well as leading Citigroup's integration with Early Warning's faster payment network, Zelle, during his six years with the bank.

Prior to Citigroup, Rodrigues was with American Express for 25 years.

He replaces Amer Sajed, who retired as CEO at the end of July, saying he wanted to focus on civil liberties.
