Eni, partners start production in Egypt's Baltim South West gas field

Eni SpA and its partners started production at the Baltim South West gas field off the Mediterranean coast of Egypt.

The field is producing at an initial rate of 100 MMcf/d from a new offshore platform linked to the onshore Abu Madi gas plant through a new 44-kilometer pipeline, according to a Sept. 17 news release from Eni. The project is expected to help boost the country's natural gas exports.

The field's development program includes the drilling of five more wells to reach production of 500 MMcf/d by the second quarter of 2020.

The Great Nooros Area has a resource potential of around 3 Tcf of gas, with 2 Tcf located in the Nooros field. The other reserves are located in Baltim South West.

The Baltim South West project came on stream 19 months after the approval of a final investment decision.

Eni subsidiary Ieoc Production BV and BP PLC both hold a 50% stake in the project, which was executed by Eni and Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. joint venture Petrobel NV.
