Tesla Inc. is buying computer vision startup DeepScale, CNBC reported Oct. 1.
Auto companies use DeepScale's low-wattage processors to power accurate computer vision, according to CNBC. The deal could help Tesla develop fully autonomous vehicles, the news outlet reported.
Tesla and DeepScale did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
DeepScale CEO Forrest Iandola said in a Sept. 30 LinkedIn post that he joined Tesla's Autopilot team.
California-based DeepScale uses deep learning perception software for driver-assistance and autonomous driving, according to the company's website.
In April, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company plans to roll out self-driving taxis by 2020.
