Amazon.com Inc. on Dec. 6 launched its Amazon Prime membership program in Singapore, following its debut in the city-state earlier this year via the Prime Now service.
The monthly membership fee is priced at S$8.99 per month. A promotional rate of S$2.99 per month is being offered for a limited period of time, but an end date has not yet been specified.
Prime members will be provided with free two-hour delivery for orders of locally available items that total more than S$40, in addition to free international delivery for orders of more than S$60 from the selection on Amazon's U.S. site.
Members will also get unlimited streaming of movies and TV shows along with free gaming content through Twitch.
In comparison, Prime membership in the U.S. costs US$10.99 per month or US$99 per year.
Amazon entered Southeast Asia in July with the introduction of the Prime Now mobile app in Singapore. The company initially offered customers free two-hour delivery from its local warehouse on a S$40 minimum spend without a membership fee.
Shopping on the app is now being offered exclusively to Prime members. The company said it has "tens of thousands of products" on offer for local orders, ranging from groceries and beverages to beauty products and electronics.
As of Dec. 5, US$1 was equivalent to S$1.35.
