Canal Plus acquires Miami-based LatAm content distribution company

VivendiSA unit Canal PlusSA said April 7 that it acquired Miami-based content distributioncompany Alterna'TV from EutelsatCommunications SA unit Eutelsat Americas.

Alterna'TV distributes Latin Americanchannels to U.S. cable and IPTV operators.

The French pay TVoperator made the purchase via its distribution subsidiary , which has an office in . The transaction will enable Canal Plus to beef up itspresence in the region, with Thema integrating its commercial activities withthose acquired from Alterna'TV.

The deal also entails a long-term agreement for Canal Plusto lease capacity on Eutelsat's 113 West A and 117 West A satellites.

Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
