Costco Wholesale Corp. said its normalized net income for the fiscal second quarter ended Feb. 15 amounted to $1.21 per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of $1.18 per share.
EPS climbed 20.2% year over year from $1.00.
Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was $534.8 million, an increase of 20.2% from $445.0 million in the year-earlier period.
The normalized profit margin climbed to 1.9% from 1.7% in the year-earlier period.
Total revenue climbed year over year to $27.45 billion from $26.31 billion, and total operating expenses grew from the prior-year period to $26.58 billion from $25.58 billion.
Reported net income increased 28.6% on an annual basis to $597.9 million, or $1.35 per share, from $465.0 million, or $1.05 per share.
