Indonesia unblocks Telegram

Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Informatics has opened 11 previously blocked Telegram sites, CNN Indonesia reported Aug. 10.

Rudiantara, the minister of communications and informatics, said the ministry agreed with the messaging app's CEO, Pavel Durov, to implement measures such as placing Telegram's special representative in Indonesia to communicate directly with the Indonesian government.

A total of 166 Telegram channels containing negative content were blocked, according to the report.

In July, Indonesia blocked access to Telegram after discovering that the service was heavily used by local terrorists to promote radicalism.
