Report: Amazon plans grocery deliveries in France

Amazon.com Inc. plans to introduce its grocery delivery service in France, Reuters reported March 4, citing comments by Amazon France General Manager Frederic Duval in an interview with French newspaper Journal du Dimanche.

Duval told the paper that the French unit of the U.S. e-commerce giant was looking to launch the service in France "in its own time." Duval said food is key for the company following the U.S. launch of Amazon Fresh in September 2016, adding that the Whole Foods Market Inc. deal is a new step in Amazon's food ambition, according to the report.

The report comes less than three weeks after Amazon was reported to be creating 2,000 more jobs in the country in 2018, and a month after it settled a tax dispute with French authorities.

Citing French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire's separate interview with Journal du Dimanche, Reuters reported that Amazon is in talks with other French groups, particularly in the food products sector.
