Acting CSX chief executive James Foote gets permanent appointment

CSX Corp. said its board of directors named James Foote as its new president and CEO, effective immediately.

The premier transportation company named Foote acting CEO Dec. 14 when former CEO Hunter Harrison went on medical leave. Harrison died Dec. 16.

Foote joined the company in October as executive vice president and COO. He has over 40 years of railroad industry experience in finance, operations, and sales and marketing.

"I worked alongside Hunter for over a decade and his pioneering approach to railroading unlocked significant efficiencies and value, and we remain focused on delivering on this vision for CSX, our customers and our shareholders," Foote said.
