As part of China's measures to battle air pollution, Shanxi Coking Coal Group Co. Ltd. will reduce its production of coke and some chemical products for the six months between Oct. 1, 2017, and March 31, 2018, Reuters reported Oct. 11.
The company plans to reduce production by about 900,000 tonnes of coke and 360,000 tonnes of chemicals. Shanxi Coking Coal has a coke capacity of 3 million tonnes per annum.
"To comply with the output curtailment plans issued by the authorities, the company will keep coke and chemical recycle factories at low operating levels, and shut the tar processing and methanol sectors for maintenance," the company said.
The move is expected to decrease the miner's total sales over the fourth quarter and the first quarter of next year by 2.8 billion yuan.
As of Oct. 11, US$1 was equivalent to 6.59 Chinese yuan.
