Solar Frontier Americas acquires 50.5-MW Calif. solar project

Japan's Idemitsu Kosan Co. Ltd. announced that its Calif.-based renewables business Solar Frontier Americas Inc. acquired a 50.5-MW solar project.

The project, called Central 40 and located in Stanislaus County, Calif., will supply power under a long-term contract to Silicon Valley Power, the not-for-profit, municipal utility for Santa Clara, Calif.

The company expects to begin the construction of the project in 2020 and commission it later the same year. Solar Frontier Americas will be the long-term owner and operator.

CS Solar is a joint venture company of Samsung Solar Energy, which is a subsidiary of Samsung C&T America Inc., according to a Sept. 18 news release.

"Samsung Solar Energy is pleased to sell this project which we developed with Coldwell Solar, to an organization with the utility-scale development expertise and power generation management capabilities of Solar Frontier Americas," Samsung C&T America President and CEO Seung-gul Lee said. "There continues to be strong demand for solar projects well-managed through the development stage."
