Bengal Tea & Fabrics fiscal Q1 profit falls YOY

Bengal Tea & Fabrics Ltd. said its normalized net income for the fiscal first quarter ended June 30 was 3.45 Indian rupees per share, a decline of 29.3% from 4.88 rupees per share in the prior-year period.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was 31.1 million rupees, a decline of 29.3% from 43.9 million rupees in the year-earlier period.

The normalized profit margin dropped to 5.8% from 8.1% in the year-earlier period.

Total revenue fell on an annual basis to 535.6 million rupees from 544.8 million rupees, and total operating expenses grew 9.6% from the prior-year period to 498.2 million rupees from 454.7 million rupees.

Reported net income declined 28.8% on an annual basis to 34.3 million rupees, or 3.81 rupees per share, from 48.2 million rupees, or 5.35 rupees per share.

As of Aug. 8, US$1 was equivalent to 61.15 Indian rupees.
