Indian state-controlled telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. said it will address accusations regarding a network equipment tender awarded to U.S.-based tech giant Cisco Systems, the Press Trust of India reported Dec. 28.
According to PTI, media reports allege that BSNL's tender to obtain IP-Multiprotocol Label Switching equipment for India's Network for Spectrum project was manipulated so that the contract for 20 billion Indian rupees would go to Cisco.
Anupam Shrivastava, BSNL's chief managing director, told PTI that "there is no substance to the allegations," but added that the company will look into the matter again.
Meanwhile, Cisco said in an emailed statement that it does not comment on internal processes or customer relationships.
As of Dec. 28, US$1 was equivalent to 68.21 Indian rupees.
