British Airways pilots call off Sept. 27 strike

Pilots of British Airways PLC canceled a strike planned for Sept. 27 to give way for negotiations with the company aimed at resolving a pay dispute.

The British Airline Pilots Association, or BALPA, called for "a period of reflection," saying that a further escalation of the pay dispute could cause "irreparable damage" to the company.

BALPA, which held strikes earlier in September, said it retained the right to announce further strike dates in the absence of new and "meaningful" negotiations with British Airways.

British Airways said it will update its flight schedule following the cancellation of the pilots' strike. The company previously canceled flights for Sept. 27.

British Airways is owned by the International Consolidated Airlines Group SA.
