The Railroad Commission of Texas issued 960 original drilling permits in August, up from the 912 permits released in July, but down from the 1,110 permits issued in August 2018.

For the month, 865 permits were to drill new oil or gas wells, 87 were for wellbore recompletions, and eight were to reenter plugged wellbores. The permits included 605 for oil or gas drilling, 229 for oil-only drilling and 49 for gas-only drilling.

The commission processed 446 oil, 103 gas and 27 injection well completions in August. During the same month in 2018, the commission reported 601 oil, 123 gas and 56 injection well completions.

Year-to-date well completions stood at 6,327, dropping from 7,297 well completions recorded in the same period a year earlier.

The Midland area had the most oil and gas well completions in August with 336 and 31, respectively. The North Texas area took the second spot for oil well completions with 25, while the East Texas area came in second for gas well completions with 27.
