Australia's Harris Technology enters JV to push China strategy

Australian online retailer Harris Technology Group Ltd said Jan. 31 that it struck an agreement with Hong Kong-based Wong Sun Hing Ltd., or the WSH Group, to establish a China-Australia manufacturer to consumer joint venture.

Under the terms of the agreement, Harris Technology will own a 51% stake in the Hong Kong-based joint venture, while WSH will own the remaining 49%.

Through the JV, Harris will be able to offer Australian customers products including toys, home decoration, fashion, travel goods, office stationery and textile from manufacturers and wholesalers at WSH's subsidiary Wanling Square Shopping Mall located in Guangzhou, China.

Wanling Square is a seven-story commercial building with several manufacturers and wholesalers and has more than 1 million products on offer, Harris Technology said in a new release. Under this arrangement, these products will be pre-sold to consumers before they are sourced and shipped to Australia.

On May 29, 2017, Harris announced its plans to set up a JV in Hong Kong in order to "substantially increase" the company's ability to supply products directly "from manufacturers in China, to consumers in Australia."

The agreement excludes information technology, electronic and technology products.
