NasdaqInc. created an offering for trading in dark pools, Tom Wittman,executive vice president and global head of equities, said at the company'sMarch 31 investor day presentation, according to a transcript.
Nasdaq is in negotiations with a few firms in relation tothe launch of the offering, called Ocean, which will allow the use of Nasdaq'stechnology, operations and compliance with Regulation SCI in running dark pooltrades, Wittman said.
In February, Barclays Capital Inc. and reached settlementswith the SEC and the New York attorney general's office in separate casesfinding that they violated securities laws while operating their dark pools.According to New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, the settlements arepart of an ongoing attemptto bring "order to the Wild West" of dark pool exchanges.
