Report: DOJ to recommend rejection of proposed Sprint/T-Mobile merger

The U.S. Department of Justice is expected to oppose a potential merger between Sprint Corp. and T-Mobile US Inc. when the deal comes up for antitrust review, Reuters reported Oct. 12, citing three sources.

The DOJ's main concern is how the proposed merger would impact competition in the mobile sector. The deal is expected to be announced later in October.

Earlier this month, a group of U.S. Senate Democrats led by Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., urged regulators to launch a review of the potential merger ahead of its formal announcement.
