FAA OKs Hartford Steam Boiler's use of drones for inspections, loss prevention

Hartford SteamBoiler Inspection & Insurance Co. has received permission fromthe Federal Aviation Administration to allow commercial operations of smallunmanned aerial systems.

The company will use drones with a property owner's consentto inspect locations that may be inaccessible or unsafe for a personalinspection to support its insurance claim and underwriting activities.

The insurer said drone inspections would benefit its industrialand renewable energy policyholders, the insurance companies it supports withproperty loss control services, and its parent company, .
