Nuclear update: US output supported by returning Vogtle, Grand Gulf units

Total U.S. nuclear plant availability saw a slight rebound early Oct. 5 to 91.36%, up from 90.84% on Oct. 4 and still holding above the 83.14% posted on the same day last year.

Giving a lift to total output was increased production at two reactors. Southern Co.'s Vogtle 2 in Georgia was pegged at 60% on Oct. 5, up from 30% on Oct. 4, and Entergy Corp.'s Grand Gulf 1 in Mississippi was operating at 60% early Oct. 5, rising from 46% on Oct. 4.

As of early Oct. 5, a total of seven units remain offline.
