Lego Group wins copyright case in China

The Lego Group on Dec. 7 disclosed that it received a favorable decision from China Shantou Intermediate People's Court on a case it filed against two Chinese companies that had allegedly been manufacturing and selling items nearly identical to Lego products.

The Danish toymaker said the court's decision, which came into effect in November, ruled that Chinese toy manufacturer BELA and another unnamed company must stop copying the packaging and logos of Lego products in the future.

The court also decided that the company is protected by Chinese anti-unfair competition laws for the distinctive appearance of certain decorative aspects of its packaging across product lines, which serves the purpose of making consumers easily recognize and associate the toys with the Lego Group.
