DavidAltmaier will succeed Kevin McCarty as Florida's insurance commissioner.
McCarty ina news release praised Altmaier, who most recently served as deputycommissioner for property and casualty insurance. He also lauded three other individuals,Belinda Miller, Rich Robleto, and Eric Johnson, who interviewed for the post.
"Florida'sinsurance consumers will be in good hands under David's thoughtful and patientleadership and he will have the benefit of an exceptional team of individualsto assist him," McCarty said.
Altmaierearned the approval of both Gov. Rick Scott and CFO Jeff Atwater, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
The state'sCabinet decided to interview another set of candidates for the role afterScott and Atwater were not able to choose between Jeffrey Bragg, the formerexecutive director of the Terrorism Risk Insurance Program, and Bill Hager, whoserves in Florida's House of Representatives.
