Sumitomo MitsuiBanking Corp. said April 8 that it obtained regulatory approval to setup a front office in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone in Myanmar.

With the approval from Myanmar regulators, the bank will starttaking the necessary steps to open the front office. The new office is subject toapproval from Japanese regulators.
