Hurricane Irma claims tally in Florida rises to $4.6B

Insurance claims stemming from Hurricane Irma are mounting in Florida, with insurance companies reporting claims worth $4.57 billion nearly a month after the hurricane wreaked havoc in the state, according to the state's Office of Insurance Regulation.

A total of 703,671 claims had been filed as of Oct. 6. The latest loss estimate represents an increase from the prior update of $3.86 billion as of Sept. 26.
