Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s wholly owned subsidiary in India has signed 20 new sites for new stores, with around five to seven of them expected to launch from 2018, the Press Trust of India reported Dec. 1, citing Wal-Mart India President and CEO Krish Iyer who was interviewed on the sidelines of the Confederation of Indian Industry retail summit.
Walmart India, which operates 21 Best Price wholesale stores in nine states across the country, plans to launch 50 more stores by 2022, according to the report.
The Arkansas-based retail chain was earlier reported to be planning on opening a fulfillment center in Mumbai.
