Paringa Resources Ltd.'s new Poplar Grove coal mine project in Kentucky is nearing completion, with construction back to full capacity after weather-related delays.
All major processing equipment is now installed at the coal handling and process plant, Paringa said in a March 15 update, while surface excavation and development work are substantially complete. A power line and electrical substation have also been installed.
Heavy rain along the Ohio River valley caused flooding that halted work at the site for about two weeks, the company said.
"Construction at the Poplar Grove Mine continues to progress well, and our team and contractors have performed extremely well to minimize delays and costs during the recent flooding," said Grant Quasha, Paringa's managing director and CEO, in the release.
The company said 2018 and 2019 production off-take is almost fully committed, with future coal sales contract efforts focused on delivery from 2020 onward.
The Poplar Grove mine is the first greenfield thermal coal project since the start of the Trump administration.
