A worker was killed at Sibanye Gold Ltd.'s Driefontein gold operations in South Africa due to a fall-of-ground incident, the National Union of Mineworkers said June 1.
The union said the fatalities occurring at the company's operations are "totally unacceptable."
"Driefontein is running fast to break the record of fatal injuries in the mining industry within a short space of time after the seven workers that died on May 3," a union statement said.
Seven workers died in early May after a seismic event at the Driefontein operations.
Another seismic event later in May resulted in injuries to three employees at the Ikamva mine, part of Sibanye's Kloof gold operations.
