Lewis Group fiscal H2 profit climbs 7.3% YOY

Lewis Group Ltd said its normalized net income for the fiscal second half ended March 31 amounted to 4.83 rand per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus estimate of 4.64 rand per share.

EPS rose 8.2% year over year from 4.46 rand.

Normalized net income, which excludes unusual gains or losses on a pre- and after-tax basis, was 431.5 million rand, an increase of 7.3% from 402.1 million rand in the prior-year period.

Total revenue climbed 13.9% year over year to 3.12 billion rand from 2.74 billion rand, and total operating expenses increased 16.2% from the prior-year period to 2.46 billion rand from 2.11 billion rand.

Reported net income increased 8.0% from the prior-year period to 499.2 million rand, or 5.59 rand per share, from 462.2 million rand, or 5.13 rand per share.

For the year, the company's normalized net income totaled 8.15 rand per share, compared with the S&P Capital IQ consensus normalized EPS estimate of 8.69 rand.

EPS was 8.21 rand in the prior year.

Normalized net income was 730.3 million rand, compared with 735.7 million rand in the prior year.

Full-year total revenue rose 8.0% year over year to 5.70 billion rand from 5.28 billion rand, and total operating expenses rose 10.5% year over year to 4.56 billion rand from 4.13 billion rand.

The company said reported net income totaled 839.4 million rand, or 9.37 rand per share, in the full year, compared with 842.2 million rand, or 9.40 rand per share, the prior year.

As of May 27, US$1 was equivalent to 12.11 rand.
