VerizonCommunications Inc. has come under fire from various industrybodies and public interest groups over its switch to fiber.

The Communications Workers of America, along with CommonCause, Public Knowledge, USAction, Citizen Action of New York, ProgressiveMaryland, Virginia Organizing and Keystone Progress, on May 3 filed a complaintwith the FCC against Verizon over claims that the carrier is pursuing "unjustand unreasonable" practices to force customers to switch to fiber fromcopper.

In the complaint, the parties asked the FCC to investigatethe policies and practices and force the company to stop them. Additionally, the complainants argued that they support upgrading customers to fiber as longas it is in compliance with the rules of the FCC.

In a statement, Verizon called the complaint "ridiculous"and a publicity stunt that is being used to distract from "real issues"that need to be addressed, MultichannelNews reported May 3.
