Deutsche Börse eyes bitcoin futures

Deutsche Börse AG is eyeing the launch of bitcoin futures, a spokesperson told Reuters.

Cboe Global Markets Inc. launched bitcoin futures trading Dec. 10, opening at $15,000 and trading 890 contracts, while CME Group Inc. anticipates "very good" demand from market makers, hedge funds and asset managers for its bitcoin futures offering, which opens Dec. 18, one executive said.

For Deutsche Börse, the listing of bitcoin futures on the Eurex derivative exchange will take "some time," the spokesperson said.

"We are thinking about futures, with which private investors and institutional investors can protect existing investments in bitcoin or set for falling prices of the cyber currency," the spokesperson told German publication WirtschaftsWoche, according to City A.M.
