M1 launched Singapore's 1st native HD voice over WiFi

telco operator M1 has launched the country'sfirst public native HD voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) trial using HetNet technology,Telecom Asia reported May 3.

The VoWiFitrial reportedly allows users to call to and from fixed numbers without havingto use a separate calling application. The service also allows two-way mobilitybetween WiFi and mobile networks, which means that a voice callinitiated on a WiFi network will not disconnect when the user moves to cellularnetwork and vice versa. Via M1's smart network prioritization capabilities,VoWiFi customers will still have access to quality WiFi voice calls even duringperiods of heavy network usage.

The service is currently available to HetNet Trials users atM1's WiFi deployment sites in the Jurong Lake District.
