As part of Google LLC's commitment to cover its entire global electricity consumption with renewable energy, the Silicon Valley tech giant together with developer Hecate Energy on Oct. 1 announced an agreement under which Google will purchase 250 MW of solar power from an unnamed project that Hecate is developing in Texas.
Google's contract is part of a package of renewable energy power purchase agreements the Alphabet Inc. subsidiary disclosed Sept. 19, totaling 1,600 MW across 18 separate deals.
Hecate, which expects to invest $275 million in the project, did not respond to a request for details about the project. The company has two 500-MW solar farms under development in Texas, the Ramsey Solar Project (Hera Solar) and the Point Mountain Solar project, according to S&P Global Market Intelligence data.
"Sustainability has been one of Google's core values from our earliest days, and a cornerstone of our related efforts is our commitment to clean energy," Neha Palmer, director of operations at Google, said in a news release.
Previously Google CEO Sundar Pichai touted the suite of contracts as "the biggest corporate purchase of renewable energy in history."
